A Very Short Story   Monday, April 7th, 2008 | Games, WoW | , | by admin

Penny Arcade is having a wow short story contest. If you are a gamer of few words, exactly ten, and you can squeeze meaning into a narrow alley then give it a try. It’s for fun but you do have a chance of winning prizes. My first temptation was to use recursion to break the ten word rule, such as “Ttohnarawc the Orc, his name a recursive acronym, was confused.” But I quickly recovered my sense of slightly more useful purpose and sent this instead.

Screaming caps at the turtle, twitching afk silently watch, unmoved.

It’s entitled Turtles, Undead, and Honor.

Heads Up - Why More Raids?   Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 | Games, WoW | | by aos

Damion of zenofdesign has an good post on why Blizzard keeps adding large raids to WoW. It covers one of the more interesting things that distinguishes MMO’s, what he calls the ‘gameplay horizon’. This results in essentially having content that is inaccessible to the majority of the players and how it’s still a good thing for the game.

Heads Up - Warcrafter   Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 | Games, WoW | | by admin

There is a new site warcrafter.net which is like Blizzard’s Armory but adds new features. Thanks to BigRedKitty for spotting this. Among the new features it has are:

  • damage, healing, and ability calculations like DrDamage
  • sandbox mode where you can swap items or add enchants to see what changes it will make to your character
  • presents all the info in one page, seriously cutting down on the clicking around you have to do on the armory
  • direct item links to sites like wowhead and thottbot

Blizzard’s armory sacrifices ease to mimic the game interface. This makes it familiar to players but if you don’t need that and don’t mind a lot of numbers at once then this site is certainly easier site to use. The only things it appears to be missing are your characters reputations and skills. Check it out.

Karazahn, are you ready?   Monday, December 10th, 2007 | Games, WoW | , | by aos

Zampana over on the WoW forums has a great list of all the class requirements for going into Karazhan. I highly recommend meeting these minimums.
