Must Have - Goblin Jumper Cables

Some items in the game are remarkable in that they are either insanely useful or very powerful. Let’s take a look at one.

This item and it’s younger brother are must haves if you’re Hunter, Rogue, or Mage that has Engineering. It gives you a chance at resurrecting a party member out of combat. Why is this useful? Recovering from party wipes.

As a Hunter, Rogue, or Mage you are one of only four classes in the game that can escape combat. The other is a Paladin with Divine Intervention, but they can already resurrect your party if they survive. With these cables, if your party is about to wipe you can Feign Death, Vanish, or cast Invisibility to escape combat. You then wait for everyone to die and for the creatures to run back. And viola, resurrect a party member that can resurrect everyone else. It saves time, repair bills, and in instances it gives you more shots at the next boss before the repops.

If you are a Mage getting out of combat is trickier than it is for Hunters and Rogues. Casting Invisibility is not instant, requiring a 5 second fade which any action will break, and it only lasts 20 seconds. But using a combination of abilities like Frost Nova and Blink, or just running early, you can often get those 5 seconds. And with good timing 20 seconds is all you need.

The schematic for both are fairly easy to get and the materials modest. If you don’t want to farm Plugger for the 15% drop rate you can check the Auction House for either the Schematic or the item itself. You can also use the XL Cables even if you aren’t a Goblin Engineer, you only need to be a Goblin Engineer to make it.

The difference between these items is that the XL cables work about 50% of the time and the normal ones about 20%. There is debate on the exact percentages and some report the odds go up when you level up. If you have Engineering 265 get the XL ones.

It’s an amazing item and well worth having in your bags if you are a Hunter, Rogue, or Mage Engineer. Your party will thank you.

I would add mage to the classes list - invisibility enables them to escape combat if they manage to tick it off while not taking damage.

Redbeard, thanks for that. I added mages in. It’s a 5 second fade but with their abilities like frost nova and blink a mage can get those those seconds, especially if the mob isn’t ranged.

Updated, it’s an item now instead of a trinket since 2.4.2. Which is prevents players from having to worry about equipping it.
